The Asian Law Students' Association (Auckland) ("ALSA," "we," "us," "our") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights under the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ).

By becoming a member, subscribing to our newsletter, or otherwise providing your information to us, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

If you purchase an ALSA Member Sticker by bank transfer, we will see your bank reference (which is your UPI) in our account records. If you pay by card through our payment processor, that processor will collect payment details on our behalf in accordance with their own privacy policies.

4. How Long We Keep Your Information

We retain your information for as long as you remain an ALSA member, and for up to two years after your final year of study or after you withdraw your membership, whichever is later. After that, your information is permanently deleted, except where retention is required for legitimate operational or legal reasons (such as tax records for sticker purchases).

Your information is stored in Google Workspace accounts that are accessible only to authorised members of the ALSA executive team. We use two-factor authentication on all administrative accounts and follow reasonable measures to prevent unauthorised access, loss, or misuse of your information.

No system is perfectly secure. If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as required under the Privacy Act 2020.

7. Cookies and Website Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use this website, such as which pages are viewed and how people arrive here. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects information including your approximate location, device and browser type, and the pages you visit. This data is aggregated and is used only to improve the website and our programmes. We have configured Google Analytics to anonymise your data, and we do not use it to identify you personally.

You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser settings. Google's handling of this data is governed by its own Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through our newsletter and on this page. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when this policy was most recently revised.

9. Photography and Videography

ALSA events may be photographed or filmed for use in our newsletter, social media, website, and promotional materials. When you become an ALSA member, you acknowledge this and consent to your likeness being captured and used in this way at any ALSA event you attend. This consent is given at the point of membership sign-up and does not need to be obtained again at each event.

If you do not wish to be photographed or filmed at a particular event, notify a member of the ALSA executive team at the start of that event. We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate your request.

If you wish to have a published image of yourself removed from ALSA's materials after the event, contact us at Enquiries@alsaauckland.org and we will action your request promptly.
