ALSA pairs law students with practising lawyers and recent graduates, matched on shared interests, background, and where you want your career to go. It runs the full length of Semester 2, long enough to build a relationship that actually means something.
Access to someone who has already done it is one of the most direct advantages a law student can have. It is also the one most students start with none of, especially those without family or friends in the profession. The mentoring programme exists to close that gap.
We match each student with a lawyer or recent graduate who understands where they are coming from, then give the pair the full length of Semester 2 to build something real. Not a one-off coffee, but a relationship that runs from July to October and is supported the whole way through.
Open to students in Part II.5 and above. Get matched with a lawyer or recent graduate based on your interests and goals, ask the questions you cannot ask anyone else, and get a clear-eyed view of the path ahead before you have to walk it.
Apply as a mentee →Open to lawyers, recent graduates, and anyone with experience worth passing on. Give a few hours across the semester, mentor up to two students, and make a genuine difference to someone stepping into the profession you know well.
Become a mentor →Mentee or mentor, applications are open now ahead of the July launch. It takes a few minutes and tells us what to match you on.
We pair each student with a mentor based on shared interests, background, and career direction, then introduce you directly by email.
Your pair sets the rhythm from July to October. Coffee, calls, or a look inside the day to day of practice, whatever works for you both.
The semester is anchored by a launch event, a law firm tour, and a closing event, so the whole cohort connects beyond their own pairing.
The programme is led by Cayla Huang and Charlotte Dobbs, ALSA's Mentoring Officers, who handle every match personally and support each pair through the semester.
Whether you are looking for guidance or ready to give it, applications are open ahead of the Semester 2 launch.
